Fortemedia's AMBIN FM1073, the Echo Canceller of Echo Cancellers, supports small array microphones for hands free car kit and Telematics applications with "One Piece" and "Universal AMBIN" initiatives

September 15, 2002 - Fortemedia Inc., a privately held company in Cupertino, California, announces its second generation of AMBIN (Array Microphone Beam-forming Integrated with Noise-suppression) Voice Processor, FM1073.

FM1073 is the first in the industry offering single chip Small Array Microphone solution with scalability from one to three microphones. With its no-compromised acoustic echo cancellation performance, FM1073 is ideal for hands free car kit integrated with microphone and loud speaker. FM1073 makes modular design of Telematics and Bluetooth hands free applications possible with its versatile serial interface (it supports uLaw, 16 bit PCM, and 8K/11K sample rate).

FM1073 Major Features:

  • Superior AEC (greater than 45dB) enable "One Piece" Hands Free Car Kit
  • "Universal AMBIN", a small array microphone solution scalable for up to 3 microphones, enhances intelligibility and full duplex in the severe noise environment.
  • 8K and 11K sample rate suitable for voice recognition applications
  • Differential inputs/outputs significantly increase the system noise immunity.
  • Highly integrated (DSP, four A/Ds, two D/As, ROM, and RAM) and small footprint (48pin LQFP).
  • Support UART, I2C, I2S, and Codec Host Interface

One Piece and Universal AMBIN Initiatives:

With its focus on enabling the hands free function everywhere, Fortemedia launches two major initiatives to assist customers designing hands free systems. "One Piece" initiative is to significantly shorten the distance (7cm) between loud speaker and microphone: therefore handset, microphones, and speaker can be integrated in a single piece hands free car kit with good echo and full duplex performance.

"Universal AMBIN" initiative enables customers to implement up to three array microphone within a very small form factor to achieve better noise suppression and voice quality in a very noisy environment(less than 0dB SNR).
