The FM1182 voice processor is Fortemedia’s
latest generation of low-power, high-performance chips following
the release of the successful FM1072LP voice processor. FM1182 raises
the bar on performance – 60dB of AEC (acoustic echo
cancellation) and enhanced noise suppression – while keeping virtually
the same low power consumption. With built-in support for SAM (Small
Array Microphone) technology, a beam-forming effect can be achieved
with 2 microphones right next to each other.
The FM1182 provides an optimized solution for the voice interface
market, in applications including:
- Automotive hands-free functions (ex: Built-in HFCK, Aftermarket
HFCK)
- Handheld mobile devices (ex: Smartphones, PDAs)
- PC/VoIP (ex: Speakerphones)
- Automotive temperature grade available
Low Power Consumption |
The FM1182 draws between 30 and 35mW of power for typical usage. This
low-power is possible for two reasons. First an integrated hardware
accelerator helps to offload intensive processing from the main
DSP, allowing the chip to function at an optimal MIPS. Second, the
FM1182 chip is specifically designed for Fortemedia’s patent-pending
SAM voice processing algorithm, ensuring the highest possible
power efficiency. For power-conscious portable devices, the FM1182
provides a well-suited solution for echo-cancellation and noise
suppression needs.
High-Performance |
SAM technology in FM1182 enables beam-forming capability for clear
and noise free communication. The beam-effect pinpoints the location
of the talker (inside the beam), while removing all the ambient
noise outside of the beam. This noise can be non-stationary, such
as people talking, the radio playing, or even doors slamming.
FM1182 supports 60dB of AEC performance along with enhanced noise
suppression, removing stationary and non-stationary noise. For noisy
conditions, such as in a car cabin driving on the freeway, this
performance is critical for the user to enjoy their hands-free conversation.
FM1182 also includes the industry’s most effective non-linear
echo cancellation, crucial in integrated designs where the microphone
can pick up vibrations caused by the speaker.
Small-Size |
The excellent echo cancellation of the FM1182 chip allows designers
to integrate a speaker with microphones, requiring only a 4cm distance
between the two. With SAM, the 2 microphones can be placed practically
right next to each other, freeing designers to let their imaginations
run wild without the space constraints of other solutions.
The FM1182 voice processor is available in a 5x5mm 48-pin BGA package.
This small form-factor allows designers who are board-space constrained
to now utilize Fortemedia’s voice processing powers. FM1182
is also available in a 48-pin LQFP package.
